Discouraging news

Early this morning they had finally cleared the runway at Union Glacier. They’ve been working hard both day and night down there. But they didn’t finish in time to beat the approaching low pressure zone.

This means we must continue to wait here in Punta Arenas. We accept it stoically. There is simply nothing we can do about the situation. We recalculate how much distance we must cover each day, check the weather reports, and wear out the couches in the hotel lobby.
