Thursday 2 November [Actually November 01]Light breeze from SSE – 34½°. To begin with, it seemed quite cold, but one gets used to anything.
A rather narrow crevasse was all the horror today. The skiing has been rather firmer and better today than yesterday. By the way, we always take the same time – ca. 2½ hours for 5 nautical miles. We now stop every 5th nautical mile to build a cairn. When building the second cairn (10 nautical miles), we eat 3–4 biscuits. That’s our lunch. It was a little hazy this morning, but it soon blew away and became absolutely clear. We have now passed the big seracs to the E., and otherwise the terrain seems nice and easy.
