“The West Coast or death.” With these words, Fridtjof Nansen set off to cross the Greenland in 1888. “The West Coast or the emergency beacon” is what Stein P Aasheim said when he and his comrades followed in Nansen’s footsteps 100 years later, equipped with replicas of the gear used by the old heroes.
